It also introduces a popular free software program that utilizes updated NOAA charts and is useful to plot routes from in advance of getting on your boat. Learn how to plan your trips in the convenience of your home before getting on the water. Review charts of the entire US for free without purchasing a single chart.

• Explanation of NOAA Chart #1 with all the standard chart symbols and how to download it free.

• Explanation, in detail, of what the symbols you see on a chart mean.

• Understand the difference between paper charts and what you see on your boats GPS chartplotter leading to a better understand your GPS chart screen.

• Review our local Savannah area 11512 chart and learn how to read this chart.

• How to use the free OpenCPN program using the free up-to-date NOAA charts.

• Working with your laptop in class you will create waypoints and routes on your computer and then save them and upload to your boat’s GPS for later use.
